    Fun in the Snow

If you’re lucky enough to live in an area that gets good snowfall every year, take advantage of it! Snow is like your own personal winter playground, and there are so many fitness tips that can be applied here. Bundle everyone up and head outside to try have some fun, and burn a bunch of calories at the same time!

Sledding/Snow Tubing – Up the hill, down the hill, up the hill… there’s some major cardio happening here.

Snowball Fights – Scooping, running and dodging, you’ll reach your step goal in no time.

Snowshoeing – Trekking through the snow with snowshoes (or if you don’t have them, just wear your boots) is winter’s version of “leg day” at the gym. You may not be able to move the next day, but you can torch up to 600 calories an hour, just by walking through the snow!

    Indoor Sports

Some sports are just made for wintertime. Check your local rec center for team sport sign-ups, or start your own league by inviting friends and neighbors to play with you and your family. These indoor sports are perfect for your indoor winter routine.

Basketball – It may be cold outside, but it’s getting hot on the court. Basketball is considered intense cardio, plus it’s super fun to play and there’s a spot for everyone in the family.

Ice Skating/Hockey – It’s safer to enjoy these classic winter fitness tips inside on an established ice rink. Your rec center may even offer it for free!

Fitness Classes – Winter is the perfect time to try that Zumba class you’ve been eyeing or perhaps get the family into yoga!

    Outdoor Sports

Some people enjoy exercising outside during the colder months, more than during the summer. The cold air is invigorating! Just put on layers and head outside to enjoy these classic fitness tips that are even more fun in the winter!

Hiking – Winter is a great time to get out and enjoy nature (while burning a ton of calories at the same time). Wildlife is easier to spot without leaves blocking your view, and it’s less likely you’ll encounter pesky creatures such as ticks and chiggers, since they usually die off during the colder months.

Flag Football – Warm up with a family game of flag or touch football. You’ll get your blood pumping fast, plus have a great time doing it!

Bike Riding – You don’t have to put away the family bikes just because it’s cold outside. A brisk ride during the stuffy winter months can be just what you need to clear your head, and burn some calories!
